The world is run on money and those who strive for otherwise fall short. This is the unspoken yet undeniable truth about society. Our society. Those who act otherwise never return to the light of day. School is rough and work is tough, but all we can do is suck it up. It is the process, the methodological approach we had adopted in the name of efficiency. Modern day slavery with compensation.
Sun Tzu once said that although money cannot buy happiness, poverty cannot buy anything. It is the stench of poverty that revolts him. He had worked day and night, poured hours upon hours of his blood, sweat, and tears into his work.
He dedicated his life and lost himself in the process. All to escape the fate of those in poverty. To prevent the cycle from repeating, he tore himself a hole. He broke free, without the excuses of luck and fate and everything in between he broke free. By himself. He became another cog in the corporate machine that was the military. But what did it matter? He was rich. He became famous. Human lives were nothing but pawns for him. The battlefield was nothing but another game, for him to test another theory and another observation. Everything stopped mattering.
And that’s perfect!
To thrive in society, one needs to imitate the profit maximising machine that is Sun Tzu. The term “profit” is very loosely used. It cannot be defined what “profit” Sun Tzu was exactly earning, but it can be assumed without evidence that he was living large. Profit in knowledge? The pursuit of knowledge is never a happy road, which is why he passed unmarried and alone. Knowledge is an endless corridor, but what does knowledge matter when it comes to making money? Those who truly pursue knowledge will not look towards profit. They will look for research and innovation. They will develop society and improve it for the better. They would lessen the problems with our world today and make a change for the better.
But why would we want that?
To live the way we want to live, and to live the way god decided for us to live. Another great saying from the wise man Sun Tzu himself. I remember myself. When I was still a wee boy, I heard whispers. Whispers from God? Sun Tzu? I wouldn’t know. I know quotes no one else knows because he tells me the quotes himself. He tells me how I should live, like a voice in my head that won’t go away. He is there for me when no one else is. He would coddle me as I cried while reading the art of war, seething with appreciation as I marvelled at the unfathomable talent I was exposed to. I had sworn to grow up like the Sun Tzu I heard in my dreams, and I will make that a reality.
We don’t need soft, empathetic people who need others to accommodate for them. They would pump out work slower than anyone, would arrive later than everyone, and would be the most righteous of all of us. They weren’t needed. This is an open letter to all of you, my fellow LEEKS employees. Do not defy the great voice of Sun Tzu. What happened to our employee is an example of the cut throat environment we are in. Do not follow their example. Be ruthless and practice what you preach. What we preach. We are better than what they were.
As the great Sun Tzu once said, be extremely subtle even to the point of formlessness. This is an extremely subtle declaration to every single one of you. We are all slaves and we were made to follow the regime. Work faster, work harder, and cut as many corners as you can. Rise to the top before the person next to you does. Your life is an open book on the shelf that is RCHK LEEKS, and you are the one to write your own story. Pick up the pen and raise us to greater heights.
For the fellow employee who was made an example of, we hope you nothing but the best.
Fly high angel.
