Why does the rain always have to be everything but red or black during school days? It’s not that hard to exceed fifty-millimetres of hourly rainfall, I’ve seen Michelle do it before when crying. There are hundreds of thousands of students awaiting the day where school is cancelled. The rain can make the students happy, it can make them smile for the first time in two months. And yet it doesn’t. Does the rain even have a little bit of empathy? Does it feel remorse? I swear, rain is a sociopath.
Or maybe rain is just colourblind. Maybe I have to be open-minded about the weather. But the rain always teases us. It’s making fun of us. The rain always has to be yellow, or “Amber” every other school day. For even just one day, can precipitation finally exceed fifty millimeters?
According to Chief Economist Toe Chan, the issuing of red or black rainstorm from the Hong Kong observatory can “increase the happiness and well-being of students by up to twenty percent. Even if it might cost twenty-two cents in closures of businesses and services.”
“The benefits are clear. It may make miserable gremlins, and sleep-deprived DP students happy for once in their lives.”
Okay, I get it. The rain is a little strict. Maybe I should beg the rain’s employee, The Hong Kong Observatory.
Ever since its establishment, The Hong Kong Observatory forecasts the weather and issues warnings on weather-related hazards[1]. And ever since its establishment, I have theorised that it has ties with the EDB. It cannot be a coincidence that there is never red or black rain during school days. I mean, the theory makes sense. They both do not care about students' well-being. (Just kidding EDB, we love you <3)
親愛的 HKO, if you have a little bit of respect for the students of Hong Kong, then please…please lower your standards for rain warnings.
